The new Bandari Maritime Academy Students Association (BMASA) Council for the 2026/2027 financial year has been sworn into office following a highly contested election held on August 5, 2026.
The new council took the oath of office administered by Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) Senior Legal Officer, Loy Lisa, during a ceremony witnessed by BMA Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Eric Katana.
Dr. Katana congratulated the newly elected leaders and urged them to embrace integrity, unity and service as they undertake their responsibilities.
Brian Otieno was sworn in as Chairperson, with Prisca Adhiambo taking up the position of Vice Chairperson. Newton Mwesigwa was sworn in as Secretary General, while Tom Simba assumed the role of Academic Secretary. Ramadhan Rahisi will serve as Treasurer, and Stella Sau as the Sports and Welfare Representative.Addressing the new council, Dr. Katana urged the student leaders to use their positions to unite, mentor and empower fellow students.
“You have been entrusted with positions of responsibility. Hold these offices with zeal, dignity, humility and commitment,” Dr. Katana said.
He further assured the council of the Academy’s administrative support as it undertakes its mandate and delivers services to the cadet community.
Outgoing BMASA Chairman, Mr. Vincent Kagechu, challenged the new council to build on the achievements of the previous leadership and strive to make the Academy better.The event was attended by Senior Deputy Director, Maritime Transport Operations Training, Mr. Enock Okwema, and Senior Principal Trainer I in Nautical Science, Maj. (Rtd.) Franklyne Toniok.
