Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) today welcomed Kenya’s first female marine pilot, Elizabeth Marami, to its exhibition booth at the ongoing 11th Our Ocean Conference 2026 in Mombasa.
Marami’s visit provided an opportunity for BMA cadets and other young participants attending the conference to interact with one of Kenya’s most accomplished maritime professionals. Her inspiring journey in the maritime industry highlighted the critical role of education, training, and mentorship in preparing the next generation of seafarers and maritime leaders.

As a pioneer in a field traditionally dominated by men, Marami’s achievements demonstrate that gender is not a barrier to success in the maritime sector. Her story resonated strongly with the cadets, reinforcing BMA’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities within maritime education and training.
The visit also showcased the growing opportunities available in the maritime and Blue Economy sectors, including marine navigation, shipping operations, marine engineering, logistics, port management, and maritime safety.
Through its participation in the 11th Our Ocean Conference 2026, Bandari Maritime Academy continues to position itself as a leading institution in developing skilled maritime professionals and creating awareness of the diverse career pathways available in the maritime industry.
BMA remains committed to nurturing competent, innovative, and globally competitive maritime professionals who will contribute to the sustainable growth of Kenya’s Blue Economy.
