Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) today hosted the Commissioner of the Kenya School of Revenue Administration (KESRA), Dr. Mugambi Mwirigi, for a courtesy call and a tour of the Academy’s key training facilities.
The visit focused on exploring partnership opportunities between the two institutions in support of the Government’s Blue Economy agenda, particularly in training and capacity building for Kenyan youth.

Speaking during the visit, BMA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Eric Katana noted that the Academy plays a critical role in developing skilled manpower for the maritime and Blue Economy sectors.
Dr. Katana welcomed the collaboration with KESRA, highlighting BMA’s ongoing partnerships with local and international institutions aimed at expanding access to maritime training opportunities.
“We extend our training programmes through partnerships with other institutions, enabling more Kenyans to actively participate in the Blue Economy sector,” said Dr. Katana.
KESRA Commissioner Dr. Mugambi Mwirigi reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to collaborating with BMA to strengthen customs services and support revenue generation within Blue Economy enterprises.

He emphasized the importance of institutional collaboration in achieving national development goals.
During the visit, the Commissioner toured the Full Bridge Mission Simulator, the Aquatic Centre, and the Maritime Survival Training and Certification Centre, currently under construction.
The Maritime Survival Training and Certification Centre is among BMA’s flagship infrastructure projects under its strategic modernization programme and is expected to enhance the Academy’s capacity to train a globally competitive maritime workforce.

Senior BMA officials present during the visit included Deputy Director Corporate Services CPA Evans Oyieyo, Deputy Director Registrar Dr. Irene Mugo, Deputy Director Supply Chain Management Mr. Samson Chira Murigia, Principal Trainer in Nautical Science Major (Rtd) Franklyn Toniok, and Senior Careers Services Officer Samuel Dube.
