Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) CEO Dr. Eric Katana has signed landmark Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with Bumbe National Polytechnic from Busia County and St. Joseph Technical Institute for the Deaf, Nyang’oma from Siaya County, to intensify maritime training across the lake region.
The MoU will promote inclusivity by preparing learners with special needs for opportunities in the Blue Economy sector.

Dr. Katana emphasized BMA’s commitment to training Kenya’s youth and producing competent maritime professionals ready to drive the nation’s blue economy.
The Principal for Bumbe National Polytechnic, Macimila Magero, expressed confidence that the MoU will help address the challenge of unlicensed operators on Lake Victoria, while St. Joseph’s Principal Colleta Omondi celebrated the inclusivity aspect, noting that the partnership will open doors for her trainees to secure meaningful opportunities in maritime affairs.
This collaboration marks a bold step toward empowering communities, fostering inclusion, and unlocking Kenya’s maritime potential.
