Newly admitted cadets at Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) have officially taken their Oath of Allegiance during a colorful mini pass-out parade, marking the successful completion of their regimental training.
The training was conducted by Bandari Maritime Academy trainers in close collaboration with the Kenya Coast Guard Service.

Speaking during the ceremony, Bandari Maritime Academy Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Eric Katana, emphasized that regimental training is not merely a ceremonial exercise but a deliberate effort to instill discipline, teamwork, leadership, resilience, self-confidence, and a sense of responsibility among cadets.
He noted that these qualities are fundamental to success both at sea and ashore.
“The maritime profession demands individuals who can perform under pressure, work effectively within diverse teams, respect authority, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity,” said Dr. Katana.
He added that the training is designed to nurture these values and prepare cadets to become competent, highly sought-after professionals in an industry critical to global economies.

Dr. Katana also commended the strong partnership between the Kenya Coast Guard Service and Bandari Maritime Academy, noting that the collaboration has played a significant role in shaping cadets who understand the operational and behavioral expectations of the maritime environment.
He urged the trainees to maintain the discipline and high standards demonstrated during training as they commence their academic studies at the Academy.
Further, he encouraged them to actively participate in the various clubs and societies within the institution to broaden their competencies and enhance their personal development.
Principal Trainer in Nautical Science, Major (Rtd) Franklyn Toniok, challenged the students to remain disciplined, organized, and focused throughout their stay at the Academy.

Among those present at the ceremony were Miss Global Tourism Kenya, Mitchelle Apiyo Otieno; Deputy Director/Registrar, Dr. Irene Mugo; and Acting Senior Deputy Director for Maritime Transport Operations Training, Mr. Enock Okemwa.
