BMA sensitizes Ndanai Vocational TTI graduates on Maritime career opportunities

By John Ndegwa / BMA

Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) has stepped up efforts to create awareness among young skilled professionals about opportunities in the maritime industry, following its participation in a graduation ceremony at Ndanai Vocational Technical Training Institute in Bomet County, where over 498 graduates were awarded certificates.

BMA delegation, led by Senior Business Development and Marketing Officer, Fatma Mzee, used the occasion to sensitize the graduates on the diverse career opportunities available in the maritime sector, particularly at sea. The graduates were encouraged to explore seafaring careers by acquiring the relevant qualifications and undertaking internationally recognized Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) courses.

The engagement highlighted the importance of linking technical and vocational education and training (TVET) graduates with emerging employment opportunities in the maritime and Blue Economy sectors. It also underscored the potential for skilled professionals in various technical fields to transition into maritime careers through appropriate training and certification.

Bomet County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Vocational Training, Youth and Sports, Patrick Maritim, welcomed the BMA delegation and emphasized the need to intensify awareness campaigns to expose young people, particularly vocational training graduates, to employment opportunities in the maritime industry.

He noted that increased awareness would enable more young professionals to appreciate the career prospects available at sea and consider the maritime sector as a viable avenue for employment and professional growth. Also present was Bomet County Chief Officer, Dr. John K. Keter.
