Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) is exploring opportunities to strengthen international collaboration in maritime education and training following a courtesy visit by a French delegation led by key players in education and hospitality.
The delegation, which was hosted by BMA Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Eric Katana, at the Academy, was led by France National Education Inspector in Catering and Hospitality, Jean-Luc Lapeyre, and France Education International Project Manager, Cécile Mathey-Fille. Also present was Alliance Française de Mombasa Executive Director, Vasilena Koleva.

Discussions centred on potential areas of partnership and collaboration in maritime education and training, with a focus on leveraging shared expertise, strengthening institutional linkages and exploring opportunities for skills development.
As part of the visit, the delegation was taken through a guided tour of the Academy’s training facilities by the Senior Deputy Director, Maritime Transport and Port Operations Training, Enock Okemwa. The tour provided the visitors with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with BMA’s training infrastructure, specialized equipment and practical learning environment that support the delivery of maritime education and competency-based training.
The engagement provided an opportunity for BMA and the French delegation to exchange ideas on how international cooperation can contribute to improving the quality of training, promoting professional competencies and preparing learners for the evolving demands of the global maritime industry.

The visit underscores BMA’s commitment to building strategic international partnerships that enhance the quality of maritime education and training, broaden learning opportunities and strengthen the Academy’s contribution to the development of skilled human resources for the global maritime and Blue Economy sectors.
