More than 200 newly admitted cadets enrolled in the September 2026 intake at Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) have officially commenced their regimental training, marking the beginning of their journey towards becoming disciplined, competent and industry-ready maritime professionals.
The training, an integral component of the cadets’ induction programme, is being administered by officers from the Kenya Coast Guard Service (KCGS), in collaboration with BMA Nautical Science Trainer, Maj. Rtd. Jacob Kazungu.
The programme is designed to instil discipline, teamwork, leadership, responsibility and professionalism among the new cadets, while preparing them for the demanding nature of maritime education and life at sea.
During the training, the cadets are being introduced to regimental routines, including drill, physical fitness, teamwork and leadership activities, aimed at building resilience, confidence and a strong sense of responsibility.
The regimental programme also provides an opportunity for the cadets to familiarize themselves with the Academy’s values, rules and regulations, while developing the discipline and professional conduct expected of maritime professionals.
The September 2026 cohort joins BMA at a time when the Academy continues to strengthen its position as a Centre of Excellence in Shipping, Maritime and Blue Economy Education and Training, providing competent maritime human resource for Kenya’s growing maritime industry and the wider Blue Economy.
The new cadets are pursuing various programmes offered by the Academy, including Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, and Maritime Transport and Logistics.
The commencement of regimental training sets the tone for the cadets’ academic and professional journey at BMA, laying a strong foundation for excellence in their studies and future careers in the maritime sector.
