The Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) Student Council is currently in Nairobi on a benchmarking visit as part of its succession planning initiatives ahead of the Bandari Maritime Academy Students Association (BMASA) elections scheduled for August 2026.
The programme is exposing student leaders to best practices in student governance, leadership development and effective succession planning through engagements with student leadership bodies and administrators from established institutions of higher learning.
The visit aims to strengthen the capacity of the Student Council by providing practical insights into effective student representation, mentorship, leadership transition and institutional continuity.
The knowledge and experiences gained will support a smooth leadership transition and contribute to building a vibrant, accountable and sustainable student leadership structure at the Academy.
During the visit, the BMA Student Council is engaging with leadership teams from the University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kenya Utalii College and Dedan Kimathi University of Technology to learn from their governance structures, leadership practices and student engagement models.
