For many young women, economic independence begins with the courage to pursue opportunities in fields traditionally dominated by men. For Fatuma Ibrahim from Kisauni, Mombasa County, that journey has led her to Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA), where she is undertaking forklift operator training to turn her career aspirations into reality.
Driven by the desire to become financially independent and build a sustainable future, Fatuma enrolled in the programme with the ambition of securing employment in the Coast region’s expanding logistics and maritime industry.
“I want to be independent. As a woman, being economically empowered is what is driving me.” said Fatuma.
Through its industry-oriented training programmes, Bandari Maritime Academy continues to equip trainees with practical skills that meet the demands of Kenya’s growing Blue Economy and logistics sectors.
The Academy is committed to nurturing a skilled workforce capable of supporting the country’s maritime and transport industries while creating meaningful employment opportunities for young people.
As she progresses with her training, Fatuma is encouraging women across the country to embrace maritime and logistics careers by enrolling in programmes offered at Bandari Maritime Academy.
She believes that women have an equal opportunity to excel in the maritime sector and contribute to Kenya’s Blue Economy while transforming their lives through technical and professional skills.
Bandari Maritime Academy remains committed to empowering youth and women by providing quality maritime education and practical training that prepares graduates for rewarding careers in the maritime, logistics and Blue Economy sectors.
