Bandari Maritime Academy Records Key Milestones Through International Blue Economy Partnership

Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA), in partnership with Nova Scotia Community College and Saskatchewan Polytechnic, continues to strengthen maritime education through the implementation of the Kenya Blue Economy Skills Transformation (KBEST) Project, delivering key achievements in curriculum development, industry collaboration and gender inclusion.

Among the notable achievements is the development of draft curricula for short-term and long-term programmes aimed at strengthening Nautical Science and Basic Safety Training, ensuring graduates are equipped with the competencies required by the maritime industry.

The Academy has also established an Industry Advisory Committee (IAC) to strengthen collaboration with industry, align training with labour market needs, and create more internship and industrial attachment opportunities for cadets.

In addition, BMA has made significant progress in promoting gender inclusion by conducting gender mainstreaming initiatives, developing gender-responsive programmes and policies, and training institutional leaders on gender equality.

Seventeen members of staff have also been trained in Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) delivery and gender-responsive pedagogy, further enhancing the quality and inclusivity of maritime education.

These achievements demonstrate Bandari Maritime Academy’s commitment to building a skilled, inclusive and industry-ready maritime workforce to support the growth of Kenya’s Blue Economy.
