Bandari Maritime Academy set for major boost as Government prioritizes maritime training in FY 2026/27 Budget

The Chief Executive Officer of Bandari Maritime Academy, Dr. Eric Katana, joined Cabinet Secretary Hassan Ali Joho and the Principal Secretary for Shipping and Maritime Affairs during the presentation of the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs’ FY 2026/27 budget estimates before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Transport and Infrastructure.

The presentation highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening maritime education and labour development, aiming to enhance the competitiveness of Kenyan seafarers in the global maritime industry.

The Committee was informed of the urgent need to expand training capacity at Bandari Maritime Academy through investment in modern maritime training equipment and infrastructure aligned with International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards. The proposed improvements are expected to enhance the quality of training and ensure graduates meet international industry requirements.

Bandari Maritime Academy reaffirmed its commitment to providing quality maritime education and training that meets global standards while equipping Kenyan seafarers with the knowledge, technical skills, and competencies required to compete effectively in the international maritime labour market.

The Academy continues to collaborate closely with government institutions and industry stakeholders to support the development of Kenya’s blue economy and enhance the country’s position as a leading regional maritime hub.

Dr.Katana was accompanied by BMA Deputy Director Corporate Support Services, CPA Evans Oyieyo, BMA Senior Principal Trainer Nautical Science, Mr. Frankline Toniok , BMA Senior Deputy Director Finance and Accounts, Mr. Moses Odero, and the President of Bandari Maritime Academy Students Association, Vincent Kagechu.
