First-year cadets pursuing Marine Engineering Level 6 at Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) today participated in a practical training session at the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), where they gained hands-on experience using the university’s Marine Engineering Simulator.
The practical session exposed the cadets to key marine engineering systems, including fuel transfer, alarm systems, and cooling systems, providing them with valuable insight into the operation and management of modern ship engine room systems. The experience reinforced classroom learning by enabling the cadets to apply theoretical knowledge in a realistic simulation environment.
The simulator training is an integral part of BMA’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which emphasizes the development of practical skills alongside academic instruction. Through such hands-on training, cadets build the competence, confidence, and technical proficiency required to meet the demands of the maritime industry upon graduation.The training was made possible through the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bandari Maritime Academy and the Technical University of Mombasa.
The partnership enables BMA Marine Engineering cadets to access TUM’s Marine Engineering Simulator for practical training, strengthening collaboration between the two institutions to advance maritime education and skills development.
