The workshop focuses on exchanging ideas on new global maritime training models as well as embedding gender equity and equality into maritime training programs, ensuring that women and men alike have equal opportunities to thrive in the sector.
Dr. Katana emphasized that the collaboration with the Canadian institution is a milestone in advancing the quality of training for marine students. He noted that the partnership not only enhances employability prospects but also secures vital seatime opportunities for cadets, a critical step in their professional journey.
Katie Orr commended the dedication of BMA staff working under the KBEST initiative. She highlighted their commitment to excellence and their tireless efforts in ensuring the project’s success. According to her, the collaboration demonstrates how international partnerships can drive sustainable growth in the maritime industry while promoting inclusivity.

The workshop is expected to lay the foundation for stronger academic exchanges, improved technical training, and a more equitable maritime workforce in Kenya and the East African Region.
