Bandari Maritime Academy today hosted a delegation led by Danish Maritime Authority, Deputy Director General, Rikke Wetter alongside officials from the Embassy of Denmark in Kenya, in a visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the maritime sector.

The delegation was received on behalf of BMA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Eric Katana by Senior Deputy Director for Maritime Transport and Port Operations Training, Enock Okemwa.
In remarks delivered by Okemwa on behalf of Dr. Katana, the Academy emphasized that meaningful progress in maritime training, safety and operational standards can only be achieved through sustained collaboration with strategic partners and leading global maritime administrations such as the Danish Maritime Authority.
The statement further underscored BMA’s appreciation of the continued support from the Government of Denmark, noting that such partnerships are instrumental in advancing technical cooperation, capacity building, knowledge exchange and the adoption of international best practices within Kenya’s maritime industry.

Speaking during the visit, Deputy Director General Wetter highlighted several areas of mutual interest between Kenya and Denmark, including the mutual recognition of seafarers’ certifications, an initiative expected to enhance employment opportunities for Kenyan seafarers and contribute to the growth and competitiveness of the maritime sector.
