Hands-on skills training remains a cornerstone of learning at Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA), a commitment that was on full display during the final day of the Mombasa County Career Exploration, Skills Exhibition and Talent Show held at Serani Grounds.

The Academy’s exhibition team, alongside cadets, captivated attendees with live demonstrations of practical maritime competencies acquired through rigorous training. From basic seamanship techniques and safety drills to marine engineering simulations, the demonstrations underscored BMA’s strong emphasis on competency-based education aligned with industry standards and the demands of the Blue Economy sector.
BMA Exhibition Committee Chairperson CPA Diana Owiti expressed satisfaction with the Academy’s participation, noting that the platform had enabled the institution to reach and inspire thousands of young people across the county. She emphasized that such forums are critical in demystifying maritime careers and showcasing the vast opportunities available in shipping, port operations, marine engineering, maritime safety, and related fields.

Career Services Officer Samuel Dube highlighted the importance of early career guidance and industry exposure, stating that hands-on demonstrations not only spark interest but also help students make informed decisions about their professional pathways. He reiterated the Academy’s commitment to mentoring and guiding youth toward sustainable and globally competitive maritime careers.
Meanwhile, the Academy also took part in a one-day National Youth Town Hall and Youth Networking Day under the Youth Social and Economic Empowerment (YSEE) Project, which was running concurrently at IOME 001, Kizingo. The forum provided a dynamic platform for dialogue on youth empowerment, innovation, entrepreneurship, and policy engagement.

The event proved impactful for young participants, exposing them to real-world issues and practical solutions beyond the classroom environment. It further created valuable networking opportunities with policymakers, non-governmental organizations, and fellow youth leaders—strengthening collaboration and inspiring collective action toward economic and social transformation.
