Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Eric Katana, today hosted Mumias West Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Johnson Naicca, at the Academy for a consultative engagement aimed at strengthening collaboration in youth skills development.

The discussions focused on exploring potential partnerships between Bandari Maritime Academy and Mumias West Constituency, with particular emphasis on expanding access to maritime education and technical training opportunities for young people. The two leaders underscored the importance of equipping the youth with relevant skills to enhance employability and promote sustainable livelihoods, especially within the blue economy and maritime sector.
Dr. Katana highlighted BMA’s mandate in delivering internationally recognized maritime training and reaffirmed the Academy’s commitment to working with leaders and institutions to support national and regional human capital development.

Hon. Naicca, on his part, expressed interest in partnering with the Academy to expose youth from Mumias West to specialized maritime and port-related training, noting the critical role of skills development in addressing unemployment.
Also present during the meeting was the Deputy Director, Maritime Transport and Port Operations Training, Enock Okemwa, who shared insights on the Academy’s training programmes and possible areas of collaboration.
