Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) CEO Dr. Eric Katana has called on staff and trainees to embrace renewed commitment, innovation, and teamwork as the institution enters a defining phase of the 2025/2026 financial year.

In a statement at the start of the academic and administrative year following the December holiday recess, Dr. Katana welcomed staff and trainees back, urging them to approach the new term with fresh energy and focus as the Academy accelerates the implementation of its strategic priorities.

He noted that the second half of the financial year will focus on strategic plan execution, service delivery, institutional strengthening, and enhanced stakeholder collaboration, all aimed at reinforcing BMA’s mandate as a leading national maritime training institution.

A key priority highlighted in the statement is the full realization of the Academy’s Appropriation in Aid (AIA) target for FY 2025/26, which Dr. Katana described as critical to ensuring financial stability, operational efficiency, and the effective delivery of BMA’s expanding mandate.

In line with government reform efforts, the Academy will also intensify implementation of the Citizens Service Delivery Charter, ensuring that services remain timely, transparent, responsive, and aligned with public service values.

Dr. Katana further announced continued investment in digital transformation, including the rollout of an integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to streamline academic, financial, human resource, procurement, and administrative operations, thereby strengthening accountability and data-driven decision-making.

Strengthening Maritime Education and Training (MET) remains central to the Academy’s mission. The institution will prioritize continuous professional development for trainers and staff, ensure full compliance with international maritime conventions such as STCW, review and enhance curriculum materials, and invest in modern training equipment to improve practical learning outcomes.

Recognizing the importance of industry partnerships, Dr. Katana reaffirmed BMA’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with local and international maritime stakeholders. Special emphasis will be placed on expanding sea-time placement opportunities for cadets, a critical requirement for certification and career advancement.

The Academy will also ensure full compliance with Presidential Directives, government policy priorities, and national development agendas, while upholding the National Values and Principles of Governance, including integrity, professionalism, accountability, inclusivity, and service to the public.

“Together, we will strengthen Bandari Maritime Academy’s position as a centre of maritime training excellence in the region and beyond,” Dr. Katana said.

In conclusion, Dr. Katana emphasized that the remaining half of the financial year offers a crucial opportunity to translate plans into tangible results, calling on the entire BMA community to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to excellence.
