Bandari Maritime Academy Joins National Efforts to Promote Youth-Led Peace Initiatives through #SlashTheHate Campaign

Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Eric Katana, alongside members of the Academy’s Students Council, participated in the launch of the nationwide #SlashTheHate campaign held at the Technical University of Mombasa.

The initiative seeks to promote peaceful, inclusive and violence-free elections ahead of Kenya’s 2027 General Election.

The event, presided over by the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, Hon. Hassan Ali Joho, brought together representatives from 10 universities, youth parliaments and youth networks to mobilise young people to champion tolerance, national cohesion and peaceful civic engagement.

The #SlashTheHate campaign seeks to address online hate speech, misinformation and digital polarisation by encouraging young people to use digital platforms responsibly, counter divisive narratives and promote constructive dialogue. It also calls on young people to embrace diversity and become advocates for peace in their communities and online spaces.

Through its participation, BMA continues to support initiatives that nurture leadership, civic responsibility and responsible citizenship among its cadets, while encouraging their active involvement in national development and peaceful coexistence.
