Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) today hosted a delegation from the Somaliland Maritime Security Office during a courtesy visit aimed at exploring opportunities for collaboration in maritime education and training.
BMA Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Eric Katana, welcomed the delegation to the Academy.
Discussions during the visit focused on strengthening partnership and collaboration in maritime training, with both sides exploring opportunities for knowledge exchange, capacity building and cooperation in developing competent maritime human resources.
Dr. Katana highlighted BMA’s mandate as a Centre of Excellence in Shipping, Maritime and Blue Economy Education and Training, as well as the Academy’s commitment to providing quality, industry-responsive maritime education and training.
Acting Deputy Director, Maritime Education and Training, Maj. Rtd. Franklyne Toniok took the delegation through a guided tour of the Academy.
The Director of the Somaliland Maritime Security Office, Mohamed Aden, appreciated the engagement and expressed interest in strengthening cooperation with BMA in areas of mutual interest within the maritime sector.
The visit provided an opportunity for both institutions to share experiences and identify potential areas of collaboration in support of a safer, skilled and sustainable maritime sector in the region.
Also present during the meeting were Senior Principal Trainer II, Marine Engineering, Chief Eng. Joseph Mbuthia; Nautical Trainer, Maj. Rtd. Menego Kipruto; Lucas Kahindi; and Deputy Director, Somaliland Maritime Security Office, Yahye Mohamed.
