BMA Boosts Marine Insurance Skills Through Kenindia Staff Training

Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) Deputy Director Registrar Dr.Irene Mugo has officially opened a three-day training workshop on Marine Insurance for staff and management of Kenindia Insurance Company.
The training is designed to equip participants with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in marine insurance, covering key areas including Marine Underwriting and Digital Underwriting, Protection and Indemnity (P&I) Insurance, and Institute Cargo Clauses, among other topics.
Kenindia Insurance Company provides marine insurance solutions for cargo transported by sea, making specialized knowledge and skills in marine insurance essential in supporting clients involved in maritime trade and logistics.
Speaking during the opening ceremony on behalf of BMA Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Eric Katana, the Registrar commended the partnership between BMA and Kenindia Insurance Company, noting that the collaboration is contributing to the development of a competent workforce for the maritime sector.
She said the training programme aligns with BMA’s mandate to develop skilled human capital to support the growth and transformation of the country’s Blue Economy.
“As an institution, we value this partnership because it enables us to build the capacity of maritime professionals and contribute to the development of a skilled workforce for the Blue Economy.” Dr. Mugo said.
The three-day workshop is expected to deepen participants’ understanding of marine insurance and enhance their capacity to provide effective and appropriate insurance solutions within the maritime industry.
The training further signifies the importance of collaboration between industry and training institutions in strengthening professional capacity and supporting the continued growth of Kenya’s maritime and Blue Economy sector.
