Bandari Maritime Academy CEO, Dr. Eric Katana, accompanied Principal Secretary for the State Department for Shipping and Maritime Affairs, Aden Millah, during his appearance before the Parliamentary Committee on Transport and Infrastructure. The Committee is chaired by Hon. George Kariuki Macharia, MP for Ndia Constituency.

The session focused on deliberations regarding the State Department’s 2026 Budget Policy Statement (BPS), which is currently under consideration.
During the proceedings, PS Millah emphasized the importance of adequate funding and institutional support to enable the Department to effectively fulfill its mandate and successfully implement its priority projects.
Also in attendance were Kenya Maritime Authority CPA Omae Nyarandi and Kenya National Shipping Line Ltd Managing Director Abdallah Hatimy, alongside Directors from the State Department and its Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs).

The 2026 BPS was tabled in the National Assembly of Kenya on 11 February 2026 and subsequently referred to the relevant departmental committees for consideration, in accordance with Section 25(2) of the Public Finance Management Act, 2012, read together with Standing Order 232(5).
