Women at the Helm at Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) has held a mentorship session for newly admitted female cadets, focusing on discipline, professional conduct, career development, and essential life skills.
Led by its patron, Ms. Winnie Nyambu, a Trainer in Nautical Science, the session encouraged cadets to take their training seriously and embrace discipline, teamwork, communication and professionalism.
The cadets were also encouraged to prioritize their mental well-being, speak openly about challenges, and seek support whenever they feel overwhelmed during their training.
“Learn to open up. If you have a problem, reach out for help instead of suffering in silence,” Ms. Nyambu advised.
She also emphasized the importance of safety, respect, following instructions, and maintaining professional conduct while at sea.
Female BMA alumni also attended the session, sharing their experiences and career insights with the newly admitted cadets.
