Scholarship opportunities and Maritime collaboration highlight Indonesian Ambassador H.E. Witjaksono Adji visit to BMA

Bandari Maritime Academy Chief Executive Officer Dr. Eric Katana today hosted H.E. Witjaksono Adji, Ambassador of the Indonesia to Kenya, during a courtesy visit to the Academy.

During the meeting, Dr. Katana emphasized the critical role of maritime education and training in strengthening bilateral cooperation between Kenya and Indonesia in the maritime sector. He noted that with the continued expansion of global shipping and maritime trade, there is a growing demand for highly skilled maritime professionals who meet internationally recognized standards.

Dr. Katana highlighted several potential areas of collaboration between Bandari Maritime Academy and Indonesian maritime institutions. These include institutional partnerships, academic and professional exchange programmes, seafarer training, technical skills development, and joint research and innovation initiatives aimed at advancing maritime knowledge and capacity.

“Maritime education and training remain a key pillar in building a competent workforce that can support the growth of the Blue Economy and global maritime industry,” said Dr. Katana.

On his part, Ambassador Adji reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Kenyan government and maritime institutions to enhance the development of the maritime sector. He also shared opportunities for scholarships that could benefit Bandari Maritime Academy staff, trainers, students and cadets, further supporting capacity building and professional development in maritime studies.
