President William Ruto has appointed Eng. Lung’anzi Chai Mangale as the new Chairman of the Board of Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA), signaling a renewed commitment to strengthening governance and advancing Maritime education in Kenya. Eng. Lung’anzi takes over the chairmanship from Prof. Muragu Kinandu, who successfully completed his second term after six years of dedicated service at the helm of the Board.

In a congratulatory message, Bandari Maritime Academy CEO Dr. Eric Katana highlighted Eng. Lung’anzi’s wealth of experience in the Maritime, Shipping, and Blue Economy sectors, particularly through his distinguished service at the Kenya Ports Authority. “Your appointment brings exceptional value, strategic foresight, and a renewed sense of purpose to our institution. We are confident that your visionary leadership will steer Bandari Maritime Academy toward greater excellence in Maritime training, foster innovative partnerships, and accelerate the growth of Kenya’s Blue Economy for the benefit of future generations,” Dr. Katana stated.
Eng. Lung’anzi’s appointment comes just a few weeks after Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs, Hon. Ali Hassan Joho, appointed four distinguished professionals to the BMA Board: Dr. Fridah Simba, Joab Tumbo, Steve Biko Luseno, and Ahmed Abdirahman Elyass.

These appointments mark a significant step in strengthening the governance, strategic direction, and leadership of Bandari Maritime Academy, which is recognized as Kenya’s Center of Excellence in Shipping, Maritime, and Blue Economy education and training. With a reconstituted Board led by Eng. Lung’anzi, the Academy is poised to enhance its role in shaping Kenya’s maritime future, expanding training opportunities, and building capacity to support the nation’s Blue Economy agenda.
