Bandari Maritime Academy has officially ushered in a new wave of student leadership following the successful completion of the Bandari Maritime Academy Students Association (BMASA) Council elections.

After a spirited but peaceful campaign period, the following student leaders emerged victorious and were duly elected to serve in various capacities on the BMASA Student Council: Vincent Kagechu – BMASA Chairman, Phyllis Karuru – Vice Chairperson, Karen Gathoni – Academic Secretary, Edwin Kiogora – Secretary General (elected unopposed), Abuzahir Masoud – Treasurer (elected unopposed) and Ayman Ali – Sports and Entertainment Representative.
The newly elected council members were officially sworn into office during a brief but significant ceremony held at the Academy. The oath of office was administered by Saidi Gongo, Bandari Maritime Academy’s Corporate Secretary and an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

The ceremony was graced by key officials of the institution, including Evans Oyieyo, Deputy Director of Corporate Services, Enock Okemwa, Chairperson of the BMA Electoral Committee and Deputy Director of Maritime Transport and Logistics Training, Dr. Irene Mugo, the Academy Registrar, who all witnessed the swearing-in.
The election and installation of the BMASA Council reflect the Academy’s commitment to fostering democratic values, leadership development and student engagement.
The new council is expected to play a pivotal role in representing the student body, enhancing student welfare and supporting the Academy’s mission of producing well-rounded Maritime professionals.

Speaking after the ceremony, members of the administration congratulated the new leaders and urged them to serve with integrity, responsibility, and a spirit of teamwork.

“Student leadership is not just about titles — it is about service, accountability, and creating a legacy of positive change within the Academy,” Okemwa.
The new council is expected to begin its term immediately, with a series of orientation and planning sessions lined up to align their goals with the Academy’s values and strategic objectives.
