Nairobi Youth Pursues Maritime Career Through Crowd Management Training at BMA

A young woman from Nairobi County, Valerie Kamidi, is taking bold steps towards a career in the maritime industry after enrolling in the Crowd Management Course at Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA).

Valerie is among a group of youth currently undertaking the two-day Crowd Management Course at the Academy, preparing themselves to explore the numerous opportunities available within the Blue Economy sector.

Driven by a passion for maritime careers, Valerie joined the programme to acquire specialized skills in passenger safety, emergency preparedness, and crowd control—key competencies required for professionals working aboard passenger vessels and cruise ships.

Speaking during the training, Valerie expressed confidence that the course will enhance her employability and open doors to local and international opportunities in the maritime industry.

She commended Bandari Maritime Academy for its practical and industry-oriented training approach, noting that the hands-on experience has equipped her with valuable skills in managing passengers during emergencies while ensuring safety and order on board vessels.

“The training has boosted my confidence and exposed me to international maritime safety standards. I am acquiring skills that will enable me to compete for opportunities in the maritime industry both locally and internationally,” she said.

Valerie further encouraged young people, especially women, to consider careers in the maritime sector, noting that the industry offers diverse opportunities for professional growth and economic empowerment.

She called upon youth across the country to enroll in maritime courses at Bandari Maritime Academy, describing the institution as a gateway to rewarding careers within the Blue Economy.

Bandari Maritime Academy continues to play a pivotal role in developing a skilled maritime workforce by offering industry-driven training programmes that equip learners with the competencies required to serve in both the local and global maritime sectors.
