On this day, Bandari Maritime Academy CEO, Dr. Eric Katana, joined the Vice Chancellor of the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), Prof. Laila Abubakar, in signing a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that sets the stage for strategic collaboration between the two institutions.
The partnership is geared towards enhancing maritime training, research, and innovation in support of Kenya’s Blue Economy agenda.
Dr. Katana emphasized the significance of the MoU, noting that it marks a major step forward in strengthening the quality of Maritime education and building the competencies required in the evolving Maritime industry.
The MoU outlines several key areas of collaboration that are expected to be mutually beneficial to both institutions and their students. One of the major components is the sharing of training equipment and facilities, which will enhance the learning experience by giving students access to a wider range of technical resources and state-of-the-art infrastructure. This resource-sharing model is aimed at maximizing efficiency and eliminating duplication of efforts.
A significant aspect of the MoU is the development of joint training curricula. This initiative aims to align academic programs with industry demands and ensure consistency in training standards. It will also facilitate mutual recognition of academic and professional qualifications between the two institutions.
Finally, the MoU supports mutual exchange visits for trainees, researchers, and academic staff. These visits will promote collaborative research, experiential learning, and foster long-term academic and professional relationships.
This collaboration between Bandari Maritime Academy and the Technical University of Mombasa reflects a shared vision to elevate the standards of Maritime and Blue Economy education and position Kenya as a regional center of excellence in Maritime training and research.
