Bandari Maritime Academy is set to enhance its training capabilities through the upgrade of its bridge simulator software, the introduction of diesel engine repair courses and the integration of software development modules across its curriculum. These transformative initiatives will be undertaken in collaboration with AISECT International, a globally renowned organization specializing in skill development and digital education.

This was discussed during a meeting held at the Academy in Mombasa, where Bandari Maritime Academy CEO Dr. Eric Katana hosted a visiting delegation from AISECT. Dr. Katana, accompanied by members of the Academy’s senior management, lauded the collaboration, reaffirming BMA’s commitment to building strategic partnerships with leading institutions to elevate Maritime and Blue Economy education and training.
“Our goal is to position Bandari Maritime Academy as a regional Centre of Excellence in Maritime education and training. This partnership with AISECT will greatly enhance our capacity in emerging areas such as Maritime technology, software development and practical engineering skills,” said Dr. Katana.

The visiting delegation was taken on a comprehensive familiarization tour of the Academy’s training facilities, led by Deputy Director of Maritime Education and Training, Chief Engineer Titus Kilonzi, and Deputy Director of Maritime Transport and Logistics Training, Enock Okemwa. The tour showcased BMA’s modern infrastructure and commitment to hands-on, competency-based training.
AISECT’s delegation was led by Vice President Mr. Mukesh Sharma, who expressed AISECT’s strong commitment to supporting BMA’s growth, particularly in the areas of Information Technology and software development. He emphasized the importance of equipping learners with digital competencies aligned with the demands of the modern Maritime industry.
Principal Nautical Science, Maj. (Rtd) Franklyn Toniok, delivered an engaging presentation highlighting the diverse training pathways available at BMA, spanning Nautical Science, Marine engineering, Maritime logistics and survival training. The presentation also outlined the Academy’s vision to align with global Maritime standards and integrate digital learning tools.

AISECT General Manager Abhishek Gupta also shared insights into the organization’s global footprint and technical expertise in vocational education, affirming their readiness to work alongside BMA in strengthening curriculum delivery, ICT infrastructure and capacity building.
