Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) has planted 9,000 trees at the National Youth Service (NYS) Camp in Tana River County, as part of its commitment to environmental conservation.

The exercise was led by BMA Ag. Deputy Director, Maritime Transport and Operations Training, Mr Enock Okwema. It forms part of the Academy’s efforts to support the Presidential initiative to plant 15 billion trees by 2030, aimed at increasing forest cover, restoring degraded landscapes and combating climate change.
As the country marks Mazingira Day tomorrow, BMA plans to plant an additional 11,000 trees to achieve its target of planting 20,000 trees in the second quarter of the 2026/2027 financial year.

Mazingira Day, observed annually on October 10, was established to promote environmental conservation, raise awareness of environmental challenges and encourage Kenyans to take collective action towards a cleaner, greener and more sustainable environment.
