Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) Senior Deputy Director, Maritime Transport and Port Operations Training, Enock Okemwa, accompanied by Senior Trainer, Maritime Transport and Logistics, Omar Athman, are attending the official inauguration of the Africa Maritime Training and Employment Pool in Durban, South Africa.

The landmark event, held under the theme “Building Africa’s Maritime Talent Pipeline through Pooled Training and Placement Partnerships,” brings together key stakeholders from across the maritime sector, including training institutions, industry players, government agencies and development partners. The initiative seeks to address the growing demand for skilled maritime professionals by fostering collaboration in training, certification, and job placement across the continent.

The Africa Maritime Training and Employment Pool is designed to create a centralized framework that enhances access to quality maritime education and facilitates employment opportunities for African seafarers. By pooling resources and expertise, the program aims to bridge the gap between training and sea-time placement, one of the major challenges facing maritime graduates in Africa.

BMA’s participation underscores its commitment to strengthening international partnerships and advancing its role as a Centre of Excellence in maritime and Blue Economy training. The Academy continues to play a pivotal role in equipping young professionals with the competencies required to compete in the global maritime industry.

The inauguration of AMTEP marks a significant milestone in Africa’s maritime sector, signaling a unified approach towards developing a sustainable and globally competitive maritime workforce.
