BMA Marine Engineering Students Gain Practical Exposure at KCNP

By John Ndegwa / BMA

In line with its commitment to providing hands-on training and practical exposure to its learners, Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) has partnered with Kenya Coast National Polytechnic (KCNP) to enhance experiential learning for Marine Engineering students.

As part of this collaboration, BMA Marine Engineering students visited the KCNP Full engine room Simulator, Marine engineering workshops, where they engaged in an intensive practical session designed to complement their theoretical studies.

During the session, students had the rare opportunity to participate in the simulation and operation of a freshwater generator, gaining valuable insight into the process of producing freshwater on board a vessel. The practical training also included an in-depth demonstration on the operation and maintenance of a four-stroke Marine diesel engine, as well as an introduction to the working principles of a Marine refrigeration system, further expanding their technical understanding of onboard systems.

Accompanying the students were Marine and Simulator Instructors Peterson Kiragu and Amos Githinji, who guided them through the practical exercises and emphasized the importance of applied learning in developing competent maritime professionals.
