Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) has intensified efforts to promote awareness of maritime education, professional training and career opportunities within Kenya’s Maritime and Blue Economy sector, with a special focus on empowering young people to explore emerging opportunities in the industry.
Despite the sector’s significant economic potential, many Kenyans, particularly young people, remain inadequately informed about the diverse career pathways available in shipping, maritime transport, marine engineering, nautical science, logistics and other Blue Economy-related fields.

Kenya’s maritime sector presents considerable opportunities for economic growth, wealth creation and employment, making it increasingly important to equip young people with relevant information and skills to participate in its development.
In response, Bandari Maritime Academy, under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Dr. Eric Katana, is strengthening public engagement and career sensitization initiatives aimed at positioning maritime education and training as a viable pathway for the country’s youth.
At the ongoing Nairobi International ASK Trade Fair 2026, BMA officials are engaging students, parents, educators, industry stakeholders and members of the public visiting the Academy’s exhibition stand, providing information on available courses, admission requirements, professional certifications and career prospects in the maritime industry.
The BMA delegation, led by CPA Diana Owiti, is using the platform to highlight the Academy’s role in developing competent maritime human resources capable of supporting Kenya’s maritime ambitions and contributing to sustainable development.

Through interactive engagements, visitors are gaining insights into training programmes offered at the Academy, including Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Maritime Transport and Logistics, as well as specialized maritime safety and professional courses.
The exhibition also provides an opportunity for prospective trainees and parents to seek clarification on course selection, entry qualifications, training pathways and potential employment opportunities locally and internationally.
The initiative aligns with the Academy’s mandate to provide competent maritime human resources for sustainable development while supporting national efforts to unlock the economic potential of the Maritime and Blue Economy.

As the Nairobi International ASK Trade Fair continues, BMA is inviting students, parents, educators and members of the public to visit its exhibition stand, interact with its officials and discover how maritime education and skills development can open pathways to careers in a dynamic and globally connected industry.
