Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) ICT Officer and Kenya Blue Economy Skills Training (KBEST 12) Open, Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) Lead, Benson Karanja, is part of a Kenyan delegation undertaking an academic tour of Canada to support preparations for the rollout of KBEST 12 – Kenya Blue Economy Skills Training.
The academic tour provides an opportunity for the delegation to strengthen its capacity in the development and delivery of quality online learning content for the programme. It also focuses on learning from Canadian partner colleges and institutions on best practices in online training, digital assessment, academic integrity, appeals processes and the use of proctoring technologies.
A key focus of the engagement is the development of robust and credible assessment systems that can uphold the quality, integrity and recognition of online qualifications.
Through engagements with Canadian academic and technical institutions, the delegation is gaining practical insights into effective digital learning models, assessment standards and quality assurance mechanisms that can be adapted to the Kenyan context.
Karanja’s participation reflects BMA’s role in supporting the digital transformation of maritime and Blue Economy skills development under KBEST 12, particularly through the integration of technology and innovative approaches to teaching, learning and assessment.
The delegation is expected to return with practical insights, lessons and standards that will inform the successful rollout of KBEST 12 and contribute to strengthening the delivery of accessible, credible and quality digital learning opportunities in Kenya’s Blue Economy sector.
