Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) CEO, Dr. Eric Katana, is currently in South Korea on an official visit to assess and inspect a training vessel donated to the Academy for seaboard training. The inspection marks a significant step toward enhancing hands-on training for Kenyan seafarers.

Dr. Katana is accompanied by Chief Engineer Titus Kilonzi, Deputy Director of Maritime Education and Training, and a technical expert from the Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA). Their joint mission underscores the commitment of Kenya’s Maritime sector to equipping cadets with world-class practical experience.
As part of his itinerary, Dr. Katana today visited the Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology (KIMFT), where discussions focused on strengthening the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BMA and KIMFT.

This collaboration aims to expand opportunities for knowledge exchange, advanced Maritime training, and capacity building.
The visit also comes ahead of a milestone event, the launch of four BMA cadets who will soon begin their months-long Global On-Board Training (GOBT) Program starting 18th September, 2025.
This program will provide them with vital seafaring experience on international waters, preparing them for competitive roles in the global Maritime industry.
Bandari Maritime Academy continues to build strong partnerships and expand its training capacity to position Kenya as a leading player in Maritime education and the Blue Economy.
