By John Ndegwa / BMA

Today, Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) warmly welcomed back four of its cadets who have successfully completed the Global Onboard Training Programme (GOBT) in South Korea.

The colourful reception ceremony was held at Moi International Airport, Mombasa marking a proud milestone for the Academy and the returning trainees.

The intensive international training was conducted at the Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology (KIMFT) under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BMA and KIMFT.

The partnership aims to strengthen practical Maritime training, expose cadets to global best practices, and enhance their readiness for careers in the international Maritime industry.

During the programme, the cadets acquired hands-on skills in shipboard operations, safety procedures, Marine engineering practices, and professional seamanship.

Beyond technical competence, the exposure provided them with firsthand experience of life at sea, cross-cultural engagement, and the discipline required in global Maritime operations, key attributes for their future careers.

The cadets were received by BMA trainer Kipruto Menego, representing BMA CEO Dr. Eric Katana and Deputy Director, Maritime Education and Training Chief Eng. Titus Kilonzi who commended the cadets for their discipline, resilience, and commitment to excellence throughout the programme.

The returning cadets are Belinda Adhiambo Abong – Female Deck Cadet, Aisha Mueke Ahmed – Female Engineering Cadet, Mahmoud Daudi Bodha – Male Engineering Cadet and Gene Kipchimba Kipruto – Male Deck Cadet.

Dr. Katana said BMA continues to reaffirm its commitment to expanding international training opportunities through strategic partnerships, noting that such programmes are vital in producing globally competitive Kenyan seafarers and strengthening the country’s position in the international maritime sector.
