Bandari Maritime Academy, in collaboration with key stakeholders in the emergency and disaster management sector, is set to train hundreds of professional fire rescue and emergency medical technicians during the Fire Rescue and Emergency Medical Technicians Responders Symposium 2025, scheduled for 10th November to 15TH November 2025 at the Academy in Mombasa.
Speaking during a strategic stakeholders’ meeting ahead of the event, Bandari Maritime Academy CEO Dr. Eric Katana emphasized the importance of the training, noting that it will greatly benefit counties, institutions and organizations by equipping personnel with modern skills to save lives and mitigate disasters.
Nancy Moore, Executive Director of Africa Fire Mission, lauded the partnership, describing it as a bold step toward strengthening Africa’s resilience in emergency response. She noted that the symposium would not only provide training but also create a platform for knowledge exchange and professional networking.
Urbanus Kioko, Secretary of the Chief Fire Officers Association of Kenya and Makueni County Chief Fire Officer, expressed excitement about the initiative, underscoring its timeliness in building the capacity of frontline responders who often face resource and skills gaps.
On his part, Kenya Ports Authority Fire Chief Charles Migwi praised Bandari Maritime Academy as the ideal venue, citing its well-established infrastructure, training facilities and commitment to safety and professional excellence.
The symposium will bring together experts, practitioners and institutions dedicated to strengthening emergency response capacity in Kenya and the wider East African region. It aims to enhance professional skills, foster collaboration, and promote best practices in fire rescue, emergency preparedness, and medical response.
