Bandari Maritime Academy Showcases Maritime Training at ASK Mombasa Show

BY John Ndegwa / BMA

Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA), under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Dr. Eric Katana, continues to expand its role in developing skilled professionals for the Maritime and Blue Economy sector.

According to Dr. Katana, the Academy is keen on “marinating” existing professionals such as Mechanical engineers, Electricians, and ICT specialists into mariners through short, modular, and internationally recognized courses.

This approach provides a faster pathway for professionals from diverse fields to transition into Maritime careers, thereby meeting the growing demand for qualified personnel in the sector.

BMA’s commitment is on full display at this year’s ASK Mombasa International Show, taking place at Mkomani Showground in Nyali, where the Academy’s officials and students are showcasing its wide range of courses to the public.

Visitors to the BMA exhibition stand are being sensitized on opportunities in seafaring, shipping, port operations, logistics, and Blue Economy training.

This year’s Show runs under the theme: “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth.”

BMA’s participation aligns with this theme by emphasizing the critical role of Maritime education and training in fostering sustainable trade, m
Marine resource utilization, and economic resilience.

Dr. Katana reaffirmed that BMA’s mission is not only to equip young people with Maritime skills but also to re-skill and up-skill professionals across the country, preparing Kenya to fully harness opportunities in the global Maritime and Blue Economy value chain.
