Bandari Maritime Academy has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing maritime education, innovation and environmental stewardship through its active participation in the vibrant Mombasa Ocean Festival held at the Swahili Pot Hub in Mombasa.

The festival, organized by Alliance Française de Mombasa, brought together a diverse mix of innovators, scientists, environmentalists, students and maritime stakeholders from both local and international institutions. The event provided a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and the promotion of sustainable ocean practices within the Blue Economy.

Representing the Academy, Senior Career Services Officer Samuel Dube led the BMA delegation, engaging participants in insightful discussions on maritime careers, skills development and the critical role of education in shaping the future of the maritime industry. The BMA team also highlighted the institution’s growing contribution as a Centre of Excellence in maritime and blue economy training in the region.

Speaking during one of the panel sessions, Dube emphasized the importance of equipping young people with relevant skills and competencies to tap into emerging opportunities within the global maritime sector. He noted that the Blue Economy continues to offer vast potential for job creation, innovation, and economic growth, particularly for coastal communities.

“The ocean is not only a natural resource but also a key driver of economic transformation. Institutions like Bandari Maritime Academy play a critical role in preparing the next generation of maritime professionals who will sustainably harness these opportunities,” he said.

BMA cadets and students who attended the festival also had the opportunity to interact with industry experts, researchers and innovators, gaining valuable insights into emerging trends such as the integration of technology and artificial intelligence in maritime operations, marine environmental protection, and sustainable shipping practices.
