Bandari Maritime Academy Marine Engineering Cadets Tour KMFRI Ship MV Mtafiti during Experiential Learning Tour

Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) cadets pursuing Marine Engineering have toured MV Mtafiti, a research vessel owned by the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI), as part of an experiential learning tour aimed at strengthening their understanding of marine engineering operations aboard vessels.

During the visit, the cadets explored the vessel’s engine room, gaining first-hand exposure to the main engines, auxiliary machinery, and Engine Control Room.

The tour provided an opportunity for the cadets to observe how marine propulsion systems and auxiliary machinery operate, as well as how onboard engineering systems are monitored and managed.

The experience reinforced theoretical concepts covered in their coursework while offering practical insights into the technical aspects of vessel operations.

The cadets also gained valuable insights into the roles and responsibilities of marine engineers, particularly in machinery maintenance, fault detection, equipment monitoring, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of vessels.

The engagement further exposed the cadets to the operational maritime environment, enabling them to appreciate the technical competencies and professional standards required in the marine engineering field.

Such industry-based learning experiences complement classroom instruction by bridging the gap between theory and practice. They also strengthen collaboration between Bandari Maritime Academy and key maritime industry stakeholders, ensuring that training remains relevant to the practical demands of the maritime sector.
