Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) CEO Dr. Eric Katana, alongside the Deputy Director, Maritime Education and Training, Chief Engineer Titus Kilonzi, has welcomed three cadets who have successfully completed their mandatory 12-month onboard sea-time training, a critical requirement for certification and professional progression in the maritime industry.

The cadets are Engine Cadet Grace Mbeyu Chidzao, who served onboard MV Belmonte; Deck Cadet Juliet Tatu Karisa, who undertook her training onboard MV Courageous and Engine Cadet Stephen Ngao Ndoro, who completed his sea time onboard MV Caro. Their completion marks a significant milestone in their journey toward becoming fully certified maritime professionals.
Speaking during the reception, Engine Cadet Grace Mbeyu Chidzao shared her experience at sea, noting that the training exposed her to real-world shipboard operations, watchkeeping duties, teamwork, and adherence to international maritime safety standards. She described the experience as demanding yet rewarding, stating that it strengthened her confidence and practical competence as a future deck officer.

On her part, Deck Cadet Juliet Tatu Karisa said the onboard training was highly educative, offering hands-on exposure to navigation, cargo operations, and bridge management under the guidance of experienced officers. She added that the sea time sharpened her problem-solving skills and prepared her for the realities of life and work at sea.
Engine Cadet Stephen Ngao Ndoro highlighted the technical skills gained during his training, including machinery operations, maintenance routines, and engine room safety procedures. He noted that the experience provided invaluable practical knowledge that complements classroom learning.

Dr. Katana reaffirmed Bandari Maritime Academy’s commitment to securing sea-time opportunities for its cadets through strong partnerships with shipping companies, ensuring graduates meet international maritime training and certification standards.
Chief Engineer Titus Kilonzi congratulated them for their discipline, resilience, and successful completion of the rigorous training.
