All systems go as Our Ocean Conference 2026 kicks off in Mombasa

The much-anticipated Our Ocean Conference 2026 has kicked off at Pride Inn Paradise Beach Resort, marking a significant milestone in global efforts toward sustainable ocean management and the advancement of the Blue Economy.

The conference has brought together global leaders, policymakers, researchers and industry experts to deliberate on innovative solutions for ocean conservation and sustainable utilization of marine resources.

Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA), Chief Executive Officer Dr. Eric Katana actively participated in a panel discussion focusing on the intersection of Blue Economy technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The session highlighted the transformative role of emerging technologies in shaping the future of maritime industries.

In his remarks, Dr. Katana emphasized the critical role of Artificial Intelligence in maritime education and training. He noted that AI-driven solutions are revolutionizing the sector by enhancing efficiency, improving safety at sea and equipping future maritime professionals with cutting-edge skills aligned to global industry demands.

“Artificial Intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept it is a present-day tool that is redefining how we train, operate and innovate within the maritime space. Institutions must embrace these technologies to remain relevant and competitive,” Dr. Katana said.

He further underscored Bandari Maritime Academy’s commitment to integrating modern technologies into its training programs, positioning the institution as a Center of Excellence in Maritime and Blue Economy education within the region.

The conference is expected to generate actionable commitments and partnerships that will accelerate sustainable ocean practices while strengthening global cooperation in safeguarding marine ecosystems.
