Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) cadets attending the ongoing 11th Our Ocean Conference 2026 in Mombasa had a significant engagement with the Academy’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Eric Katana, where they presented key experiences and insights gained from the Youth Forum sessions.

The cadets reported on wide-ranging discussions that focused on leadership in the Blue Economy, emerging innovations in the maritime sector and the increasing influence of Artificial Intelligence in shaping the future of maritime education and training.
They further highlighted the importance of safeguarding the marine environment, emphasizing sustainable practices and stronger environmental stewardship within the maritime industry.
The role of modern technology in enhancing efficiency, safety and operational effectiveness in maritime activities also featured prominently in their reflections.

Dr. Katana commended the cadets for their active participation in the international forum, noting that such engagements are critical in building globally competitive maritime professionals and strengthening Kenya’s position in the Blue Economy.
