Bandari Maritime Academy Showcases Commitment to Skills Development at National Qualifications Conference

Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) is proudly participating in the inaugural National Qualifications Conference currently underway in Nairobi, reaffirming its commitment to advancing quality maritime education and skills development in Kenya.

The conference, organised by the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA), has convened key stakeholders, policymakers, training institutions and industry players from across the country.

Held under the theme “A Decade of Transformation and Reimagining Qualifications in Kenya: Advancing Quality, Relevance, Inclusion and Recognition in Kenya’s Qualifications and Skills for Lifelong Learning and Employability,” the forum provides a platform to reflect on progress made and chart the way forward for Kenya’s qualifications framework.

Speaking during the official opening ceremony, Deputy Head of Public Service Amos Gathecha, representing Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, underscored the Government’s commitment to strengthening the national qualifications framework.

He emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration among stakeholders to ensure that education and training systems produce competent graduates equipped with relevant skills for the evolving job market.

Principal Secretary in the State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Dr. Esther Muoria, highlighted the critical role of competency-based education and training (CBET) in aligning skills development with industry needs.

KNQA Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Alice Kande, reiterated the Authority’s mandate in harmonizing and coordinating qualifications across all levels of education and training.

On his highlight notes, Bandari Maritime Academy CEO, Dr. Eric Katana, expressed the institution’s strong support for this year’s theme, noting that the maritime sector plays a pivotal role in Kenya’s Blue Economy agenda.

He affirmed BMA’s commitment to delivering internationally competitive training programs that meet global standards, while fostering inclusivity and enhancing employability for its graduates. BMA team at the conference is led by CPA Diana Owiti.
