By Raymond Zaka

The Principal Secretary, State Department for Shipping and Maritime Affairs, Abdi Millah, has today paid an official visit to Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) to assess the progress of the ongoing construction of the Maritime Survival Training and Certification Centre.

During the visit, the PS was received by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of BMA, Eng. Lung’anzi Chai Mangale, accompanied by the BMA Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Eric Katana.

Dr Katana highlighted the Academy’s commitment to advancing maritime training and ensuring international standards in survival and certification programs.

The project, once completed, will equip trainees with essential skills and personal survival techniques to counter navigation challenges and distress at sea, thus positioning Kenya as a regional hub for maritime training.

The PS commended the Academy’s leadership for their dedication to strengthening the country’s maritime capacity and emphasized the government’s support in fostering growth within the sector.

Present was BMA Senior Deputy Director, Maritime Transport and Port Operations Training, Enock Okemwa.
